Beginning of the Second Week

I have received all of the class funds for this year and the lunch money for this semester.  All of the students had their P.E. uniforms today, so everybody was able to participate. Thank you for your help in preparing your child, I appreciate it!

We will normally have a spelling quiz every Monday starting next Monday, August 25th. We didn't have one today because of the shortened first week, and I would like every student to feel extra prepared for their first quiz.

We are learning how to be good speakers, listeners and viewers in Language and Spelling. Our current goal in the second grade is take turns speaking, in order to become cooperating members of our small community. I am pleased to say that I am seeing improvement even since last Monday!

Tonight's homework:  Using English pg. 3-4, write down five ways that you can be a good speaker and a good listener. The students are welcome to choose from the eight tips that are already listed in the book, or they can think of their own tips.

Additional:  Starting today, I will start sending home the homework's subject book with each student, so that you are able to see what your child has been learning. If there are any other additional books that you would like your child to bring home, just let me know in the communication book.

End of the First Week!

It's the end of the first week, and I am pleased to report that your students are learning the procedures, rules and transitions that I will use in the second grade. We still have some progress to make, but I am optimistic that we'll be running smoothly by the end of the month!

Mr. Yanna has requested that the students bring in a folder with multiple clear pockets for health class by Monday. The students also need to bring in their P.E. uniform on Mondays. This is important, as any student who does not have their uniform will not be able to participate.

Tonight's Homework: Write spelling words five times in your class notebook

Spelling Words:

1. drooled
2. straight
3. curly
4. floppy
5. row
6. collar
7. stood
8. weighed

Have a great weekend! I hope that you find the time to enjoy some sunshine.

Here Comes the Sun!

I believe that we're all relieved to see an end to the deluge that our city has been under! The lawns of DISK are drying off and will be ready for your child to play on very soon (unless we experience more rain!)

Thank you again for sending your children to school with all of the necessary supplies, as well as fees/funds, class tissues, and books for the class library. I am keeping a list of which books were lent by whom, so we can get them back to you at the end of the year. Truly, I appreciate your efforts.

There has been some confusion by what I meant with "A4 notebooks," for which I apologize. I simply mean a standard sized notebook with lines. I have shown your child a variety of examples, any of which will be great! Your child's notebook will be very important, as we will use it daily as a place to staple worksheets and write down a variety of things in (class notes, spelling words, certain homework assignments and journal entries). I have shown the students to write down the date, the subject and the topic at the top of each new page, in order to keep their notebook organized. Once they have completed their notebooks, they can use them to study from for their end of quarter exams.

We had a great math lesson today, where we worked with counters to add base ten. The students appear to really enjoy "hands on" activities, so I will try to implement them into their lessons where I can.

Tonight's homework: Complete Math Practice 1.1

Rain Day!

I hope that you and your family are safe and dry during this rainy day.
