Today in the second grade, we:
- listened to campaign speeches from the upper elementary students who are running for student council during assembly
- took our weekly spelling quiz, wrote a short journal entry on a celebration and continued to identify and pronounce hard and soft c and g sounds in reading and phonics class
- worked with today's number (9), reviewed doubles facts and doubles plus or minus one facts in math class
- voted for the treasurer, vice president, and secretary in student council and created a map key with map symbols for DISK in social studies class
- chose our class poem and song for the month of September during ECA
- Complete the book report on "My Family" from Journeys pg. 39-52 and check the rubric (in your child's assignment book.)
- Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log. I recommend they read "My Family" from Journeys before they start their book report!
The reading log is a new piece of nightly homework, where the students are encouraged to read aloud to their parent (or another family member) for at least 15 minutes nightly. Your child has brought home a reading log, which includes a list of comprehension questions that you can ask your child after they read to you, as well as information about this new homework assignment. After your child has read, please sign the reading log, and I will check it each morning. Thank you!
I sent home the weekly spelling quiz home. Please sign and return it with your child. Thank you!
The spelling words for next Monday's spelling quiz (September 7th) will come from Journeys pg. 34-35:
- remembered
- porch
- crown
- spend
- stuck
- visit
- cousin
- piano
- family
- Spanish
