Happy New Year! I hope that you all had a chance to relax and have fun during the holidays. It is wonderful to see the students refreshed and ready to learn!

Today in the second grade, we:
  • were welcomed back and updated on our house points during our weekly assembly
  • previewed our weekly target vocabulary, reviewed consonant blends, consonant digraphs, and syllabification and practiced using our idiom of the week: "Piece of Cake"  in reading and phonics class
  • reviewed plane shapes and started our unit on solid shapes in math class
  • started our new unit on people by discussing different customs that different cultures have, reading about what the Inuit people do for recreation, and practicing the "seal hop" (you can ask your child to show you!) in social studies class
  • chose a new poem and a new song to learn for January and shared information about our holidays during ECA
January's Class Poem: "No" By Shel Silverstein

January's Class Song: "We Will Rock You" By Queen

Buddy you're a boy make a big noise
Playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day
You got mud on yo' face
You big disgrace
Kickin' your can all over the place
Singin'

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're a young man hard man
Shoutin' in the street gonna take on the world some day
You got blood on yo' face
You big disgrace
Wavin' your banner all over the place

We will we will rock you
(Sing it!)
We will we will rock you

Buddy you're an old man poor man
Pleadin' with your eyes gonna make you some peace some day
You got mud on your face
Big disgrace
Somebody better put you back into your place

We will we will rock you
(Sing it!)
We will we will rock you

(Everybody)

We will we will rock you
We will we will rock you

(Alright)

Thanks to Kellen for picking out special stamps for everyone during his holidays in Japan!
