Today in the second grade, we:
Tonight's homework:
The students have chosen partners for the science fair (groups of twos and threes) and were given time in class to formulate three ideas. The students were encouraged to find a topic that interest them (football, frogs, ice cream, etc....) and start asking questions with the W's (Who? What? When? Where? Why? How? Which?) For example: How does _____ affect ______? How much _____ is required to ____? To what extent does ____ affect ____? The students may have already finished their homework in class but were instructed to share their ideas and their partnerships with their parents. Please let me know if a partnership isn't possible. I will give the students plenty of time to work on their projects in class, but they will need to meet outside of school at least a couple of times to complete their project.
Special Notes:
*All of the grade two students arrived early today-thank you! I would greatly appreciate it if you could send your child to school early again tomorrow for the Mass. Thank you!
*The students need to wear their school uniform to school tomorrow and pack their P.E. pants or shorts. We will change after Mass. I have their sports day shirts and will distribute them tomorrow.
*I have stapled the 3rd quarter study guides for the major subjects into your child's assignment book.
- rehearsed for tomorrow's mass in the morning
- defined and identified the sides and vertices found in plane shapes in math class
- practiced doubling the consonant with certain suffixes (ex: nap = napped, napping) in reading and phonics class
- identified and broke apart run-on sentences in language and spelling class
- discussed the science fair and learned about a famous botanist in science class
- defined "unique" and "culture" and discussed the cultures in our community and what we can learn from other cultures in social studies class
Happy Birthday, Ayrton and Nathan! Thanks to Ayrton's family for the yummy class treats!
They are both a delight to teach. I love how well Ayrton balances work and play-always giving everything he does his best effort! My days wouldn't be as interesting without Nathan's infinite curiosity about the world around him.
