See you soon!

I hope that you are all enjoying the last bit of a relaxing and rejuvenating Christmas vacation. It has been wonderful to be able to travel and reflect upon this past semester, but I have missed seeing my lovely and funny second graders!

I am looking forward to reading the students' holiday journals! It will be fun to share what we have been up to during the holidays with each other on Monday.

Next week we will begin a new chapter in math, where we will learn how to identify and use place value. We will also begin a new unit in social studies, where we will explore different landscapes and ways in which people have adapted to and changed their surroundings. In science, we will continue our unit on animals, learning about the life cycle of different animals this week. In language and spelling, we will continue to review the parts of speech and practice using various kinds of adjectives to expand our writing. In reading and phonics, we will start reading and discussing our new story: "The Ugly Vegetables," as well as practice identifying and pronouncing a variety of consonant blends and digraphs.

The parent-teacher conferences for the second quarter will be held next Friday (January 9th), which will be a half day. The conferences will begin at 12:10 and conclude at 4:30. I will staple a sheet with the below times to your child's assignment book on Monday. Please circle any times that you are available to meet and return the sheet, and I will arrange the schedule.
  • 12:10-12:25
  • 12:30-12:45
  • 12:50-1:05
  • 1:10-1:25
  • 1:30-1:45
  • 1:50-2:05
  • 2:10-2:25
  • 2:30-2:45
  • 2:50-3:05
  • 3:10-3:25
  • 3:30-3:45
  • 3:50-4:05
  • 4:15-4:30
I am hoping to be able to meet and discuss your child's progress with you this past semester, but if you are unable to make it on Friday, you are always welcome to come chat with me after school or schedule an appointment with Ms. Lee for another time.

I wish you and your family and healthy, prosperous and happy 2015! I can't believe how fast the first semester flew by, but I am grateful to have five more months with my young learners, where I can continue to help them discover, grow and achieve. I couldn't have achieved my goals that I set for the students this past semester without your support, assistance and feedback, for which I am forever grateful.
