Monday, November 9th, 2015

Today in the second grade, we:
  • were updated on our house points, celebrated Kellen's hard work and success at recent TKD competitions, and listened to a presentation on our community gardening project from Mr. Chao during an extended assembly
  • took our weekly spelling quiz and our quiz on unit 2: short and long vowels, and started brainstorming for our weekly sharing time in reading and phonics class
  • showed numbers in different forms, words, models and expanded forms in math class
  • learned about several historical and modern day figures and identified their acts of public service in social studies class




Tonight's Homework:
  • Complete the book report on "The Ugly Vegetables" from Journeys pg. 195-216 and check the rubric (in your child's assignment book.) 
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
Announcements:
  • The topic for this Friday's weekly sharing time is: What makes you happy? The students have received their outline and are welcome to start working on their presentations. The outline will be due on Wednesday, November 12th.
  • I sent home the weekly spelling quiz. Please sign and send it back with your child. Thank you!
  • The spelling words for next Monday's spelling quiz (November 16th) will come from Horizons unit 2 pg. 41-89: "Our Government."

  • There will be a quiz in math on chapter 5 next Monday, November 16th.
  • There will be a quiz in social studies on unit 2: "Our Government" next Wednesday, November 18th.
  • The Scholastic book orders are due tomorrow, Tuesday, November 10th.
  • After the language festival on Thursday, November 26th, there will be a family lunch. If you are able to attend, please complete the form in your child's assignment book and return it by Thursday, November 12th.
  • Tomorrow we will be painting the back wall of Dominican and start planting in our school's garden. The students need to bring a change of old clothes and/or an apron, sun protection, and a mask. I have masks and sun screen for students who forget theirs.
  • This Friday is the second Friday of the month, meaning the students are free to wear their own clothes to school if they wish (with P.E. clothes packed.)
