It is hard to believe we have already reached November! I hope my students had a great long weekend. The weather is getting cooler, so feel free to pack a little extra warmth with your child. I'll be switching off the air conditioners and opening up the windows when the weather allows for it.
Today in the second grade, we:
- started the day with our weekly spelling quiz, previewed next week's spelling words, and read a short story where we had to identify the short and long vowel sounds in reading and phonics class
- voted for our sharing time topics for the remainder of quarter 2, identified and listed nouns that name people (both proper and common) and continued our unit on cursive in language and spelling class
- took our chapter 4 quiz in math class (We will begin unit 2 tomorrow-on place value and numbers through 100. I would like to double our current pace in math so that we can start unit 3 by December. If you feel that the pace is too fast for your child, please let me know and I will endeavor to accommodate your requests.)
- completed our animal classification chart according to how the animals give birth (live or egg,) where the animals live, and what kind of body coverings they have in science class
- listened to a story about "Morris and Boris" and practiced our songs and poems in preparation for the language festival during ECA
November's Class Poem: "Ickle Me, Pickle Me, Tickle Me Too" By Shel Silverstein
November's Class Song: "Count on Me" By Bruno Mars
If you
ever find yourself stuck in the middle of the sea
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
I'll be the light to guide you
We find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
I'll sail the world to find you
If you ever find yourself lost in the dark and you can't see
I'll be the light to guide you
We find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
Chorus
You can count on me like 1, 2, 3
I'll be there
And I know when I need it
I can count on you like 4, 3, 2
And you'll be there
'Cause that's what friends are supposed to do, oh yeah
Ooooooh, oooohhh yeah, yeah
If you're tossin' and you're turnin'
And you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Every day I will remind you
And you just can't fall asleep
I'll sing a song beside you
And if you ever forget how much you really mean to me
Every day I will remind you
Oooh
We find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
We find out what we're made of
When we are called to help our friends in need
Chorus
You'll always have my shoulder when you cry
I'll never let go, never say goodbye.
You know...
Chorus
You can count on me 'cause I can count on you
