Second Quarter Study Guide for Reading and Phonics

*Please review the workbook Phonics Unit 2 (pg. 37-52) and Unit 3 (pg. 53-74.)

Phonics

Be able to:

-correctly read and identify a series of short vowel words
-correctly read and identify a series of long vowel words
-correctly read a series of words with consonant blends
-identify compound words (ex: pancake, bookshelf, whiteboard)
-identify words that have the same y sound (ex: y as a vowel or y as a consonant)
-identify the number of vowels that you see and the number of syllables in a word

*Please review the textbook Journeys pg. 114-283

-Lesson 5 pg. 122-148: “Teacher’s Pets”
-Lesson 6 pg. 162-180: “Animals Building Homes”
-Lesson 7 pg. 195-216: “The Ugly Vegetables”
-Lesson 8 pg. 231-244: “Super Storms”
-Lesson 9 pg. 259-278: “How Chipmunk Got His Stripes”

Reading

Be able to use:

-read a short story and answer questions about it
-select the correct word to finish the sentence
-connect the theme of the story to yourself and answer questions about your life
