Monday, December 7th, 2015

Today in the second grade, we:
  • observed the second week of advent, listened to a presentation from G1 on how to be a good person, and were updated on our house points during our weekly assembly
  • took our weekly spelling quiz, practiced identifying and pronouncing words that use y as a long vowel sound (sky, happy) and practiced using our idiom of the week: "Get the Show on the Road"  in reading and phonics class
  • identified flips, slides and turns during our unit on plane shapes in math class
  • wrote paragraphs about our school and home during social studies
  • made Christmas decorations and listened to and discussed our our latest story during ECA
Tonight's Homework:
  • Complete a fiction book report on "How Chipmunk Got His Stripes" from Journeys pg. 259-278 and check the rubric (in your child's assignment book.)
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
Announcements:

  • I sent home the weekly spelling quiz. Please sign and send it back with your child. Thank you! This is the final spelling quiz for quarter two.
  • I have sent home your child's pocket folder. Please send it back with your child by Friday, December 11th.
  • Next Monday and Tuesday (December 14th and 15th) are half days due to major subject exams. The students will be dismissed at 11:45 a.m.
  • Next Wednesday (December 16th), we will be taking a half-day field trip the art museum. We will be back by lunch.
  • Next Wednesday (December 16th), the student council will be showing a move in the afternoon (2-4 p.m.) The cost of admission is 70 NT, which includes popcorn and a drink.
  • Next Friday (December 18th,) the students will have a busy morning morning with mass and the Christmas concert. The concert will being at 10 a.m. if you wish to attend. The students will be dismissed after the concert, at 11 a.m.
  • Mr. Yarmechuck and I are researching ways to increase the effectiveness of reading logs. I would greatly appreciate your feedback on reading logs. There is a survey in your child's assignment book. It would be great if I could receive all of the surveys back by this Friday, December 11th. Thank you!
