Today in the second grade, we:

  • visited the library to check out new books
  • reviewed rounding and estimating in math class
  • continued to sequence the story "Growing Seasons" in social studies class
  • updated our KWL chart, reviewed the key concepts and target vocabulary from unit 8 with a game of game of Jeopardy, and discussed what kind of research we should do for the science fair in science class
  • welcomed back Kellen from his holiday in Japan, and enjoyed watching some awesome videos of him snowboarding
  • found some time to listen to our latest class story, practice March's class song and March's class poem
Tonight's Homework:
  • Complete Science Fusion pg. 339-340.
  • With your science fair question, start working on the research form. This form (the yellow one in your child's assignment book) will be due next Wednesday, March 9th. If you have concerns with the question your child chose for the science fair, please contact me.
The questions I have for the science fair:
    • Julie and Sophie: What is the most effective strategy for memorization?
    • Rei and Mickey: What is the effect of a volcanic eruption on people living next to a volcano?
    • Daniel: How will marbles be pulled down in a marble machine?
    • Fiona: How do planets stay in their order?
    • Victoria: If a person puts water, ice, and oil in a jar, how will they separate from each other?
  • Study for tomorrow's science quiz on unit 8.
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
Announcements:
  • The students have pooled together some of their Dojo dollars to have a special lunch tomorrow! We'll weed and water the garden in the morning (pack a smock or shirt if you are worried about your child getting dirty), pick some vegetables, and then make our own sandwiches in the classroom with some of the vegetables we helped grow in our school garden.
  • I have received some of the students' field trip fees and forms. I will continue to accept these. Thank you!
