Today in the second grade, we:
  • reviewed our weekly target vocabulary and were introduced to the present perfect tense vs. the past simple tense (ran, have/has run, came, have/has come) in language and spelling class
  • visited the library to check out new books
  • reviewed ordinal numbers and used strategies to solve word problems in math class
  • shared our haikus with each other, and practiced making additional haikus about other cultures and their traditions and celebrations in social studies class
  • started our new unit on the solar system by exploring attributes of the sun and working on our sharing time outline in science class

Tonight's Homework:
  • Complete the K and the W portions of the KWL chart (in your child's science notebook.)
The K portion needs at least six sentences about what the student already knows about space.
The W portion needs at least six questions about what the student is wondering about space.
We will complete the L portion of the chart as we progress through the unit.
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
Announcements:
  • It is grade two's turn to weed and water the school garden tomorrow! Please feel free to pack a smock or an old shirt for your child if you are worried about them getting their clothes dirty.
