Today in the second grade, we:
  • were updated on our house points, learned about friendship from G3, and celebrated Fiona's hard-earned success at her latest violin contest at our weekly assembly
  • took our weekly spelling quiz and practiced identifying and reading long e (_e, ee, ea) words in reading and phonics class
  • worked with today's number (33) and used models to act out number sentences in math class
  • continued to work with the three branches of the government in social studies class
  • practiced our class poems and songs, and prepared for tomorrow's time with our reading buddies during ECA
Kellen passes off the Angel of the Week trophy to Jewel.

Mr. Hilden honors Fiona for receiving first place at her violin competition.

Well done, Fiona! We're so proud of how hard you work at everything you do.

We managed to squeeze in a bit of time to make some All Saints' Day decorations.
Tonight's Homework:
  • Complete the reading response on "Plant Life Cycles" and check the rubric (in your child's assignment book.)
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
Announcements:
  • We will be celebrating All Saints' Day this Friday. The students are welcomed and encouraged to pack a non-scary costume that they can change into after lunch. I can help your child with their costume.
    • From 1-3:20, the students will be playing games, eating candy, and celebrating with their classmates.
    • At 3:20 we will be having a parade around the school grounds. You are welcome to come at 3 p.m. to watch the parade, take pictures and cheer us on! After the parade, there will be an opportunity for you to take more individual and class pictures before the students are dismissed.
  • There will not be a sharing time this Friday due to All Saints' Day celebrations.
  • I sent home the weekly spelling quiz. Please sign and send it back with your child. Thank you!
  • There will be no school for the students next Monday, November 2nd, as the teachers and staff will be involved in professional development that day. We will have our weekly spelling test next Tuesday. The spelling words for next Tuesday's spelling quiz (November 3rd) will come from our class poem for October, "I'm Getting Sick of Peanut Butter," by Ken Nesbitt. We are entering November, so there students will now have 14 words to study.
  1. peanut butter
  2. sandwich
  3. staring
  4. glumly
  5. yesterday
  6. tomorrow
  7. outlook
