Today in the second grade, we:
  • wrote commands to help a treasure-hunter find treasure using a treasure map, and continued our cursive writing unit in language and spelling class
  • worked with today's number (23) and practiced reading and creating pictographs in math class
  • discussed how some leaders in America and Taiwan are elected, while others are appointed in social studies class
  • discussed and discovered the ways technology can hurt or harm the environment in science class
  • practiced October's class poem and song during ECA
Tonight's Homework:
  • Log onto your Science Fusion account to watch the 3rd video on Unit 2: "What is Technology?" and complete the accompanying worksheet. The students have already started this worksheet.
  • Read aloud for 15 minutes and have a parent sign your reading log.
  • Practice talking about your favorite movie in front of your family. You will have two minutes in front of the class tomorrow during our weekly sharing time.  Sharing time was moved from our usual Friday to Thursday just for this week, as we don't have school this Friday and I didn't want the students to miss out on two weeks in a row of sharing time.

*The students prepared an outline of what they want to present. On the back of their outline is a rubric of the points I will be grading their presentation on.

These are questions you can answer:
  • What's the title?
  • Who are the characters?
  • What's the genre?
  • What's the setting?
  • What are the problems and solutions?
  • Why do you like it?
Announcements:
  • I have received every student's field trip form and fee. Thanks, G2 parents!
  • G2 will have a science quiz on unit 2 next Wednesday, October 14th. We will not have the time to cover every unit in the science book during our year together, so I presented the remaining units to the students and we voted for our top four, which were: unit 3: animals, unit 7: weather, unit 8: the solar system, and unit 10: energy and magnets. If we have time, I would also like to cover unit 9: changes in matter, which I know wasn't able to be covered last year.
